About

Located in Bethlehem, New Hampshire in the heart of The White Mountains, The Colonial Theatre is one of the oldest continuously operated movie theaters in the country. When The Colonial opened its doors in 1915, the era of the Grand Hotels was in full swing and Bethlehem was a premier destination resort. Because of its sophisticated clientele The Colonial quickly became a venue for studios to test market their films. Operations of The Colonial were undertaken by the Friends of The Colonial in 2001.

Since that time the historic 300 seat Colonial Theatre has presented nationally acclaimed artists in an intimate theatre setting, independent and world cinema, quality family entertainment and community events to residents and visitors to The White Mountains from May–October. The Colonial Theatre is on The New Hampshire list of historic places.

THE COLONIAL THEATRE is dedicated to presenting a diverse program of live world-class music, independent, world and event cinema, fun-filled family entertainment, supporting other community and arts non-profits that enhance the quality of North Country life. Our success in saving and improving this historic 1915 landmark theatre, attracting audiences to Bethlehem’s Main Street, and presenting formerly unavailable arts and culture to the White Mountain region as a whole has made The Colonial a model for rural small town economic and community development.

Our continued success would be impossible without the broad support of individuals and businesses across the spectrum. The Colonial is a non-profit organization managed by only one full-time and one part-time employees, the assistance of a volunteer board of directors and a dedicated group of community volunteers who serve up popcorn, run the projector and contribute a host of other important services.
